Sheriff Andy Street convened the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
Treasurer’s report: Balance as of May 3, 2007 was $1808.76, same as April.
Safety Officer’s report: Mike reported that all the ammo for the season was purchased.
Old Business:
Sound system: Derk recommended that we keep our present system, but modify it by adding a CD player, building a mobile stand for mounting and transport (which Derk subsequently agreed to do), and purchasing lapel microphones (lavaliers). After much discussion, we decided not to purchase the lavaliers at this time, but instead use a hand mic that Derk could supply gratis. We further agreed to spend up to $200 to upgrade the sound system by purchasing the CD player and perhaps the material needed for the mobile stand.
Lanesboro: It’s definitely on the schedule with $750 going to the club if we do the Sunday parade ($700 sans parade).
New Business:
Peach and Rose do well in OK: The members present applauded Peach’s high standing in the rope twirling event and Rose’s great performance in the whip cracking competition at the Wild West Arena Arts Show, held recently in Oklahoma.
Peach is leaving us: Peach announced that she is leaving Minnesota to take a position as a historical interpreter in Guthrie, OK. We’re very sad to see her leave, but we wish her the best of success in her new endeavor.
History Fest event at McGowan’s Farm near Mankato: Peach mentioned that she had reserved a slot for COWS to participate at the History Fest in Mankato during the second week in October. Various reenactment groups will be there, and Peach made a reservation for COWS because the deadline for doing so occurred before our May meeting. We discussed whether we want to participate, and the consensus was that we do. There is, however, a potential conflict with the buffalo ranch reenactment event in River Falls, also slated for the second weekend of October. Some members may want to do that instead of History Fest. Gordy will check on whether the River Falls event is actually scheduled.
New events needed: Members present stressed that we need new events for COWS to participate in, especially one-day shows. We were urged to talk to event organizers that they know to see if a COWS show could fit into their festival or celebration.
Wild West Roundup (June 9-10): Jody again passed out brochures for this year, emphasizing that the deadline for entering the reenactment contest is May 15 (a refundable deposit is required along with the application). Volunteers are needed before the event to help with set up.
Little Log house Antique Power Show: Sheila mentioned that she will have space there for selling goods. Members who have items to sell for themselves or for the club are welcome to contribute to Sheila’s store.
Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. A safety meeting conducted by Mike, followed.
