Sheriff, Rick Stuve convened the meeting.
Treasurer Report - As of this date the club has $3,125.78. Hud received the check from Dakota City, but it has not been deposited into the bank yet. Members are paying dues, so that will add to the amount the club will have to work with. We have the replenishing of ammo, Insurance, and the Christmas Party expenses coming up in January.
Reminder: November - Dues - $25 per household!!!
Safety Report - (1) Mike reported on the ammo inventory. We will need to spend about $1,500 to replace the ammo that was used over the past season. We will replenish the brass 45 & 12 gage. There was a discussion about what kind of powder to use. And we will set better standards on how much to load as well as what kind to load.
(2) We discussed the safety in not aiming at people and to keep our distance when shooting. Our rule is to aim low and to the right. If someone says "BACK OFF" during a scenario, they really mean "BACK OFF". That is our standard phrase for warning the shooter that we are uncomfortable with their distance when shooting.
(3) We briefly discussed the safety issues we ran into over the past season, and discussed the importance to introducing the skit and demonstrating the guns before the scenarios, as well as wrapping them up afterward.
Old Business - Someone brought up the discussion we had at the last meeting about committing to two day events. Most of the members that were present thought they are ok to do as long as we don't add any more. If we have no more than one a month - it seems like we will be able to handle them. Jody brought up a good point. We are a "Society" and that usually means a social club. If we don't socialize, how can we feel comfortable with the members shooting at us at the events. We get to know each other better when we have time in the evenings to relax at camp.
Spike suggested that we have a morning meeting at each event to set the scenarios. Everyone agrees that it is fun to change them up a bit, but that should not be done 5 minutes prior to performing.
Rick and Derk talked about the flavor that the sound system could add to our scenarios by playing music and using it for the announcements before and after the skits. Derk suggested that the club invest in a good stationery mic and a CD player. We agreed to have him check into the cost, and will vote later on whether or not to invest.
Again it was decided that the Christmas Party will be held at the Mill Street Tavern on January 20, 2007. Mark this on your calendars, it should be a great event again this year. Jody has put money down on the room and selected the menu. It will be buffet style with Baked Chicken and Smoked Pork Chops, salad, break, potato, vegetable, and soft beverages. The total cost per person will be around $15. Jody asked if the club could contribute $10 toward each persons meal again, and we voted and passed that "$10 will go toward your meal if you bring a $10 gift for exchange.
New Business - Each year the Posse select 5 members that they feel went above and beyond over the past season. Gordy represented the Posse in presenting the traditional November awards to the year's outstanding members. The Posse thanks everyone for their outstanding contributions to the success of the club. Those outstanding members this year were - Dakota Rose, Mike Kinzell, Gary Spessard, Andy Street, and Joanie Nelson. Thanks again to everyone!!!
Election for Sheriff and Deputy were made. It was decided that the Sheriff will be the one with the most votes and the Deputy will be the runner up. It turned out that Andy Street is our new Sheriff and Gary Spessard is Deputy. The GAVEL was turned over the Andy by the outgoing Sheriff, and Jody turned over the PEN to Gary Gary will now take notes at the meetings and then email them to the Webmadam for posting on the Internet. Jody will remain the Treasurer/Webmadam.
Andy and Gary continued the meeting in their new roles as Sheriff and Deputy.
The new Sheriff, the new Deputy, and the club members expressed their appreciation to Rick and Jody for their past contributions as officers of the club.
Derk mentioned that the Wild West Roundup crew may be calling on individuals to practice some "Street Theater" type scenarios, so that they don't have to put the burden completely on the clubs. He also suggested that we will get together on some Sunday's during the winter months to practice these new scenarios. COWS worked very hard during the Roundup, and did a great job. Since the Roundup is not able to pay the clubs or members for their time and ammo, they don't want to put this burden on us again next year if possible. Again thanks to everyone that did come to the Roundup. You all helped make it a great success!
Meeting was adjourned.
